Lawley and Overdale Parish Council

This is our BLOG

HERE YOU CAN FIND OUT WHAT WE ARE DOING IN OUR PARISH

We continue to work in partnership with Telford & Wrekin Council and other agencies to improve our local environment.  Below are some examples of what we have achieved though partnership working.

BUS SHELTERS

Since 2005 we have removed one bus shelter which had been severely vandalised, replaced seven shabby bus shelters and installed a new one.  All these shelters have been fitted with anti vandal panels to help deter budding graffiti artists.

LITTER

When we carried out a consultation in 2004 it revealed dog fouling and litter as one of the major issues.  In order to address this we have installed dog fouling signs and new litter bins throughout the parish, particularly in areas frequented by children e.g. safe routes to school and open spaces.  These bins can be used for both ordinary litter and dog litter.

FLOWERS

We have planted daffodil bulbs at various locations which flower each spring.  Areas included are Cedar Close, Rock Road, Marlborough Way, Old Park and Lawley Village.

STREET LIGHTING

We have also provided additional street lighting at Cedar Close, and Dawley Bank.

CRIME AND DISORDER

As part of our duty to comply with section 17 of the Crime and Disorder Act we fund our own Community Support Officer (CSO).   Our CSO engages with local residents by patrolling the parish and this makes our local community feel safer and improves their quality of life.  Our CSO is able to issue fixed penalty notices for dog fouling, parking offences, fly tipping, graffiti as well as dealing with anti social behaviour.  However, before a fixed penalty notice can be issued the CSO must witness the offence.

Revenue from fixed penalty notices issued by our CSO does not go back to the Treasury but is retained by Telford & Wrekin Council.

COMMUNITY FACILITIES

We manage 2 community buildings, Lawley Community Centre in Lawley and the Carpenter Centre in Overdale.  Both of these buildings are available for hire and are regularly used to provide child care, educational and recreational activities.

PLAY PROVISION

We have recently carried out a consultation with children in the Overdale area and we are actively working with Telford & Wrekin Council to help provide new play equipment throughout the parish.

NEW DEVELOPMENT

Lawley is earmarked for major development that will see 3,300 new dwellings built over the next 15 to 20 years.  We attend regular meetings with Telford & Wrekin Council and the Lawley Developer Group who keep us up to date with development proposals and housing sales.
